Lee Maitland's 67 Fairlane S.W.

The car was purchased by a gentleman back in December of 1966 and luckily for me, he kept EVERYTHING pertaining to the car, including the keys and dealer tag from the pegboard where it was purchased along with all repair records.

When I got the car in 1998 it had 13,000 original miles. She just turned 16,000 last month.

When I first saw the car, it was sitting on the original General Dual 70 tires and they were all inflated and in perfect condition with no signs of cracking. He indicated to me that tires were guaranteed for the life of the car (although I doubt they ever had this in mind) The car is a candy apple red and the paint is in near perfect condition as is the interior and just about everything else on the car.

When I asked about the mileage, the answer I got as he pointed to his two legs was that as long as he had those (his legs) what did he need that for (the car). God gave him two good legs and he used them and still does everyday at 88 years of age. In acquiring the car, I had to promise to take care of it and not to sell it while he was alive. It was an easy stipulation to agree to.

The car is scheduled to have a six page color report in an upcoming issue of Special Interest Auto this year as a passing comment of mine to the editor, (Richard Lentinello ) pertaining to a new series that they are doing on original, unrestored vehicles and as luck would have it, he has a soft spot for wagons and given the fact that SIA has never done a spread on the 67 wagon, it would be perfect for their magazine.

I am an absolute nut for the original, unrestored vehicle because anyone with a lot of money can take something old and make it LOOK new again. The unrestored vehicle managed to make it through the years without a facelift and still (at least mine) looks or at least looks almost as good as the day she was pulled off the showroom floor. I am lucky to have this car. I grew up in Ford's. I drive Ford's and station wagon's are all but a thing of the past. It is a piece of history that I hope to have for many years to come.
